All is in the detail

What is bliss? A state of extreme happiness. So how we can achieve this state?

We are live in a busy world, with many things that we need to do, with many pressure on the achievement that we need to make. Sometime we forget that the world before was not like what it is today. Our ancestor never saw or even call with mobile, no wi-fi, no blackberry, no television, no newspaper, not even internet. They connect with each other through signal and for days sometime they only saw their own family or even some of them live isolated. I am talking about our ancient ancestor. So some of us may forget or never experience what is like to live in a quiet world.

But in Bali, where I live, they do what they call "Nyepi Day" or "Silent Day" in which for one full 24 hours period, people are not allowed to go outside their own home area and has to stay inside. For Hindu Balinese, they will spend their days praying and fasting. For the rest of us that stay in Bali but not Hindu religion the choice are either watch TV, read a book or stay in a resort which butler service for one day period.

When I came here first, the thought of being quiet and silend for a day was quite scary and most of my friends preferred to book to resort hotel. However as I began to experience later, it was one of the most rewarding experience that I had.

For a day, I began to realize how silent the world was, no car on the street, nobody outside their house so I did not hear any voice talking. The sky was clear and blue, definitely no pollution, no need to go to your office so I began to do things that I may not have time to do whan I was working which is reading a book, or painting or just enjoy the landscape of rice field from the window of my rooms, enjoy an organic tea, cook an organic meal, or just took a nap and listened to the voice of the birds. What a bliss!!

This year is the mark of my ten years live in Bali and I never skip Silent Day or refuge to hotel until now. It is my time to cleanse my mind, rethink of my goal and just enjoy a day of pure bliss - silent ......

Some people warn other not to come during Nyepi Day (Silent Day) but I recommend all of you guys to come during Nyepi Days as you will begin the transformation in your life by a simple act. Silent, listening to your heart, pray and you will be ready to face everything...

This year, Silent Day will fall on 7 March 2008 so I am looking forward to my special blissfull day...
